DR. BACH’S ‘MUSTARD’ FOR SEASONAL GLOOM

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance Leave a comment

If Colonel Mustard did the dastardly dead in the library with a pistol, he’s clearly not your man to help with seasonal gloom.   As I look out my office window at the December rain that’s  pouring down, I’m reminded there’s an emotional fog that can come with the onset of the winter season or suddenly appears for no reason at all.  This fog can settle over any one of us, especially for those in the more northern areas of the country.   For some, this ‘funk’ arrives like clockwork throughout the months that I call ‘the dark ages’ when sunlight takes a holiday replaced by grey days that are endless.  For others, they’re fine one moment and in the next, they feel like they’ve suddenly fallen into a black hole.  When this happens, there’s relief to be found (besides taking vitamin D), in Dr. Bach’s flower remedy Mustard.

Mustard was not one of Bach’s Twelve Healers and therefore wasn’t one of the Soul Type remedies that I’ve been writing about in previous posts.  And, it wasn’t one of the ‘Seven Helpers’ which were next in the line of discovery.  However, it is one of the final 19 remedies which Bach discovered between 1934-35.  He described these remedies as being more ‘spiritualized’, functioning at a ‘higher vibration’ than the earlier 19 and that they functioned on a ‘different plane’.

How and why these or for that matter any of Dr. Bach’s 38 remedies work, we don’t know as yet in a way that is understood by the bio-medical model.  But, at the end of the day, this isn’t really the issue.  More importantly, when there’s a resonance between a remedy’s vibrational energy, life force, prana or Qi (whatever word you want to use) and the individual, there’s a shifting of perception and mood.  With Mustard it’s as if the remedy ‘lifts’ the gloom up and out of wherever it has settled within the person’s energy fields and emotional experience.

The key to identifying a ‘Mustard state’ is that there’s no one specific event or happening that throws you into the sense that you have a black cloud hanging over you.  It can simply be that you  are routinely sensitive to the lack of sunlight or that you occasionally experience a sudden onset of feeling low-spirited.  If you happen to be someone who experiences these moments or seasons of depressive gloom, Mustard is the remedy.

For clients who often experience a negative Mustard state, I recommend making a ‘personal formula bottle’.  This will help the 20ml ‘stock bottle’ you buy in the stores go a lot further, nor will the fact that the remedy is diluted in 1 oz of water, affect its power in any way.   On my website, look at the sub-link, What if you feel you need more than one remedy?  There you will find directions for making a personal formula bottle for one or a combination of remedies.

SHOCKING MYSELF IN THIS NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

As I wrote in my last posting,  Thanksgiving was framed by a new moon solar eclipse in fiery Sagittarius at 2 degrees.   Those (including astrologers) who subscribe to the belief that eclipse energy triggers change, solar eclipses open new doors diverting us onto a different external channel in some way…often this comes out of nowhere through an unexpected event.

Individuals who have birthdays falling close to either November 25th or May 25th (Gemini being the opposite sign of Sagittarius and is therefore affected by this energy -me included), will experience the eclipse energy more so than others. With a solar eclipse, new opportunities can arise bringing with them new options.  And, sometimes the effect is a result of events in which we  had no part (such as world events) but yet they have a direct influence upon us.

Admittedly, other than being aware of the forthcoming eclipse, I didn’t give it much more thought nor meditate on it, as I was distracted by the busy-ness of current projects and the holiday.  Days before the eclipse (during which time the energy was building) I had been reading various “publishing news” sites to which I subscribe, and was feeling extremely frustrated with prospects for the current mystery I’m working on.  This was compounded by bizarre responses from a literary agent regarding another book  I  have out for query.  Thus, this publishing landscape which seems to be changing hour by hour, is almost enough to make you quit as a writer and go flip burgers at McDonalds…almost.

Needing a break, I went to Barnes and Nobel and for ‘some reason’ perused the magazine rack.  On impulse I picked up the current issue of Writer’s Digest and along with their ‘year-end’ issue…noting to self that I hadn’t purchased an issue of this publication in probably 10 years.  I brought my purchases home and…forgot about them.   Thanksgiving evening I had some time to read and picked up the magazines.  With no specific target in mind, I flipped open to an article regarding the current publishing situation and forecasts in light of the ‘E-Publishing’ and ‘Publishing on Demand’ craze.  Hitting me like a Uranian ‘light bulb moment’, the article shifted perceptions I’d been hanging onto.

Feeling a bit better, as I flipped through more of the magazine, an announcement for a mystery writer’s conference taking place in Chicago in February, caught my eye; I haven’t been to a writer’s conference since around 1992.  As I read more details regarding agents, publishers and PR types who will be in attendance, my interest was piqued.  However, what sealed the deal for me was that the organizers have retained the standard option for a writer to ‘pitch’ her/his project directly to agents/publishers face to face.

Granted, this element has changed over the years as now you only get 2 minutes (yes as in two) to “pitch” rather than having a much longer time frame like we had twenty years ago, but still.  Needless to say, first thing Friday morning I went on line, did a little more research on the featured attendees, pulled up the registration and plunked my money down.  It wasn’t until a few hours later that I realized all of this had happened as the energy of the eclipse had hit my chart very significantly-a SHOCKING revelation!  Time will tell as to the outcome, but you can’t convince me that this was all a coincidence!!

TURNING RETROGRADE IN SAGITTARIUS, MERCURY DOUBLES UP ITS ENERGY MEETING DR. BACH’S CERATO HEAD-ON

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology Leave a comment

If you read my last post, you’ll know there’s a LOT happening in the heavens on Thanksgiving.  Included in the coming attractions,  little  Mercury, ‘messenger of the Gods’, ‘director of all forms of communication’, will begin its final retrograde motion of 2011 as it appears to back up in its orbit until December 13th.

On the practical level as always with a Mercury retrograde, it’s wise to make certain that  computers are continually backed up,  messages are double checked  before we hit ‘send’ or ‘delete’, details of appointments are re-checked  and that we are conscious of what’s coming out of our mouths.  When Mercury turns retrograde, it tends to play havoc with all forms of communication whether they be external or simply a mind that just will not STOP…this is Mercury’s energetic MO.

As I posted last time, along with Venus and the Sun and Moon, Mercury is now in the fire sign of Sagittarius  turning retrograde just hours before the New Moon Solar Eclipse on the 24th…translation: Mercury in Sagittarius is fired up with lots of energy encouraging us to ‘let go’ of beliefs or perspectives that no longer serve or benefit our evolution…but this isn’t the whole story.

When any planet shifts into ‘retrograde’ motion, we’re encouraged to contemplate; to better understand a particular part of ourselves(mercury-the mind), a particular message of the sign that it’s in at the time, (Sagittarius-beliefs) and what alternative action needs to be taken by us, if any.  Thus, during a Mercury retrograde, Dr. Bach’s flower remedy Cerato can be very helpful

Like all of the remedies, Cerato can re-balance s temporary or situational mood state but it’s also one of Dr. Bach’s original ‘Twelve Healers’ and therefore a soul type.  While one may not be a Cerato Soul Type per se, those who have Mercury significantly placed in their chart are particularly subject to Cerato’s shadow energy which distrusts innate wisdom.  As a result, decision making can be very difficult at times; the individual has to ask everyone what they ‘should do’, rather than going within and trusting their own knowing.

During Mercury’s retrograde motion where the message is really to quiet the mind and mouth, Bach’s Cerato can act as a catalyst, shifting our perspective from the external to the internal.  So whether we are dealing with a ‘temporary’ Cerato state or if we might well be a Cerato Soul… if we are prone to distrusting our own Divine wisdom, Cerato’s energy will support us in our effort to go within where we can come to ‘know’ this wisdom that is ours and to trust it.

GETTING READY FOR THE SOLAR ECLIPSE IN SAGITTARIUS WITH DR. BACH’S AGRIMONY FLOWER REMEDY

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology 2 Comments

There’s a lot going on in the heavens these days.  In case you’ve been wondering why you’re feeling unsettled, there’s good reason.  We’re just winding up the strong energy from last week’s full moon in Taurus urging us to rethink how we think about possessions, how we want to spend our energy, coupled with feelings that come with the realization that change is a constant fact of life.  And, if this full moon weren’t enough, the on-going square between Pluto and Uranus creeping to its first exact hit in June (which I wrote about in the last post), is cranking up the heat and rattling cages for everyone.

There’s no rest for the weary as the saying goes and the solar eclipse in Sagittarius on November 24-25th, puts an exclamation point on this expression.  Although not universal across the board, a great many astrologers regard eclipses as significant events that vary in impact depending on the details involved…this eclipse in the fire sign of Sagittarius will be particularly action packed.

Sagittarius the archer, reaches for the heavens, always wanting to know answers to cosmic questions…why are we here, what is our purpose, where should we be going?  As the ruling sign of the ninth house in the zodiac, Sag is all about expansion and exploration.  Venus and Mercury, heart and mind, join the Sun and Moon for this eclipse.  Their presence adds another layer to this picture, pushing us on our evolutionary path to open our hearts and minds expansively in the recognition that there’s more out there than the awareness of our immediate world…that we are interconnected in the collective through divine wisdom.

While this all may sound exciting, it can create anxiety in us as well.  One of the essential things to remember with the flower remedies is that each is capable of numerous dimensional applications .  This said, Dr. Bach also maintained there was an added exclusive dimension to be understood in each of his original Twelve Healers of which Agrimony is one.  In addition to their positive action in balancing situational emotions or those with which we have a history, each carries a soul lesson.  Astrologers who are also Bach Practitioners like myself, pair each of Bach’s Twelve Healers with one of the twelve astrological signs.  While Dr. Bach studied astrology, he never identified the exact pairings to my knowledge.  Nevertheless, there seems to be common agreement to these pairings; Sagittarius and Agrimony are typically paired…the question is why?

In his book, Free Thyself, Bach identifies the soul lesson of the Agrimony type as traveling a path that moves from Restlessness to Peace.  Sagittarius with all of its fire is ruled by Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.  Jupiter in its expansive energy and unbridled enthusiasm can create restlessness within us, especially if it or Sagittarius is significant in our birth chart or by transit, for example during a new moon eclipse in Sagittarius!

So, if you are beginning to feel particularly restless, unsettled or experiencing the kind of anxiety that can come with restlessness  as the energy of this eclipse builds over the next ten days, consider adding Agrimony to your healing tool kit!

DR. BACH’S CHICORY-THE FLOWER REMEDY THAT MEETS THE ENERGY OF PLUTO’S HARD QUESTIONS

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology Leave a comment

In conventional and evolutional astrology, Pluto is often looked upon as the ‘bad boy’, ‘the cosmic 2×4’ and not infrequently, phrases inappropriate for a blog post.  Why is this?  When Pluto is ‘transiting’ (hitting) a sensitive point in our charts, such as our Natal Sun, Moon, or Ascendant, (and there are others depending on the blue print of one’s individual birth chart), Pluto will ‘clean out’ that which is no longer useful.  As human beings, change can be difficult filled with unknowns and risks which is why we resist… ‘better the devil you know’, etc., etc.

But when we hang on, we aren’t growing.  The phrase, “change or be changed” is very Plutonian and whether we like it or not, the energy of Pluto’s outcomes are necessary for our soul growth.  Plutonian energy asks the hard questions:  What needs to go? What price are you paying for hanging on? What do you no longer need to defend or be defensive about?

And, because Pluto is one of the slow moving planets, its energy gives us plenty of time to ‘get the message’ and adjust.  “Wake me when it’s over,” is a phrase that readily comes to mind.  But ideally during a Pluto transit, it’s much better if we’re awake and aware of what we need to change or what shifts we need to make in our selves, in our lives…letting go rather than resisting which invites Pluto’s 2×4!  Such needed changes can manifest materially, emotionally or both; it all depends on the evolutional message reflected in the birth chart.

Edward Bach’s Chicory remedy is one of his original ‘Twelve Healers’ which I identified as deep soul type remedies in Igniting Soul Fire-Spiritual Dimensions of the Bach Flower Remedies.  Thus, like Pluto’s action, Chicory can affect us at our deepest levels.

From an emotional perspective, Chicory is a good bedfellow for those times when Pluto’s energy cranks up the heat in our lives.  As a flower, Chicory is that blue flower that grows alongside the highway.  Entrenched, it miraculously emerges out of concrete and gravel. Mimicking the signature of the flower, the energy and behavior of the negative Chicory state is also entrenched.

Typically narcissistic, negative Chicory uses emotional manipulation to get what it wants; “I’ll love you more if you…” or “how can you do this to me after everything I’ve done for you,” are common attitudes in the negative Chicory state. In other words, control and neediness are the motivators which predictably have the potential to drive others away, leaving the individual in a state of lonely isolation.

On the other side, the  action of the Chicory flower remedy helps us let go of our fear-driven controlling behaviors so that we can receive and embrace what we need for our soul’s evolution. During a period of ramped up Plutonian energy in our charts, this remedy can shift our perspective to an awareness that supports recognition of what’s holding us back and what needs to go in order to pursue the positive.

In the coming months I’ll be revisiting the dynamics of Pluto’s energy with other flower remedy considerations as June will bring in the first exact Pluto square to the disruptive energy of Uranus…the planet of rebellion and vision of future strategies.  The forthcoming series of these tight and highly charged squares will affect everyone internally and externally as well as on the global stage.  While change should not be viewed as negative from an evolutionary perspective, we will need to fasten our seat belts and have our remedies within reach!
