AS MERCURY GOES DIRECT, WARRIOR MARS RETREATS-RIDE THE WAVE WITH DR. BACH’S CERATO AND HOLLY

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology Leave a comment

Astrologically speaking, 2014 is starting off with a bang, so much so that it’s hard to keep one’s bearings.  Among the more recent events, the brief but nevertheless intense square, mid January between Venus and Mars reappears again just as Mars retrogrades in Libra, March 1st on the heels of Mercury going direct in Aquarius.

As with all things in the Universe, there are multiple layers of meanings expressed through outward events such as these astrological configurations.  But in order to take full advantage of these planetary energies and their metaphorical meanings through the evolutionary lens, we need to dive deeper within ourselves.  As I’ve written in previous posts, any time a planet ‘appears’ to be moving backwards in the sky, there’s the expressed opportunity for us to go within, examine and consider where and how we need to move forward for our own growth.

EVERYONE jokes about Mercury going retrograde as it does three times a year, portending computer failures, messages being garbled or lost, the sudden appearance of foot in mouth disease along with a host of other communication malfunctions.  Some of our experiences are funny wherein we can only laugh, others not so much, like when you’re directed to the wrong gate and miss your flight! When Mercury backs up, the Universe is suggesting that we closely examine our ways of thinking, listening and expressing…it’s as if the pause button has been hit in order for us to revisit our ways of and interactions with, communication.  Where we need to switch to a different channel that supports us moving forward?  Fortunately we still have time here, as Mercury remains in retrograde mode until the end of this month when it slowly changes course and begins to move forward.

Mars, the god of war, can be a nasty guy when he shows up in his guise as ‘a trickster.’  Aggressive, even vindictive with an intensity of having to be right; that’s the moderate portrait…no need here to detail what the escalating profile looks like; we witness it daily on the news.  But what about when Mars is a teacher for us, especially when he starts moving backwards?  It’s in this mode that Mars’ agenda is to help us develop courage so that we may manifest our greatest potential on our evolutionary path.  Growth takes courage because it demands that we move out of our comfort zone, take the leap of faith, go into territories that are totally unfamiliar.  In this mode we all become Captain Kirks at the helm of the Star Ship Enterprise.  In order to navigate these arenas of communication and courage we need supportive tools and of course within easy reach are two of Dr. Bach’s famous flower remedies, Cerato and Holly.

Like all of Bach’s remedies, Cerato can re-balance temporary or situational mood states but also as with all of the remedies, Cerato has deeper applications.  Cerato is particularly paired to communication and therefore Mercury in this sense.   When Mercury behaves as a trickster, we distrust our innate wisdom, which totally defeats the purpose of the ‘pause to go within.’  As a result, we question what our intuition is trying to tell us, we ask everyone what we ‘should do’, rather than trusting our own knowingDuring Mercury’s retrograde motion where the message is really to quiet the mind and mouth, Dr. Bach’s Cerato can act as a catalyst, shifting our perspective from the external to the internal.  So if we are prone to distrusting our own Divine wisdom, Cerato’s energy will support us in our effort to embrace the wisdom that’s ours and learn to trust it.

In the broad sense, Holly is about dealing with aggression, jealousy, envy,  greed and rage.  Such emotions are very much in the spirit of Mars as a trickster driven by fear at the core.  As a remedy, Holly’s life force, prana, Qi, vibration,  softens this perception by helping us to step back where we can reinterpret the reality around us and at the same time support us with a feeling of safety.  When this happens we develop the courage to open our heart center, step out of the box and move forward in our evolution!

DR. BACH’S ELM CALLS FOR TAKING A BREAK FROM OVERWHELMED

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Ancient Legends of Great Britain, Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

Greetings everyone!

Reluctantly,  I’ve decided to take a small break from blogging as somehow I’ve maneuvered myself into Dr. Bach’s ‘Elm’ state ‘conjunct’ with the movement of the Sun, Venus, Mars, Uranus and soon Mercury(!) into the fiery ‘initiating’ energy of Aries!  Bottom line, like so many of you who fall into the same trap, I’ve suddenly  found myself ‘overwhelmed’.  So  besides taking  Bach’s  flower remedy Elm, (Elm for ‘overwhelmed’) I’m stepping back to take a breath,  reorganize myself and projects.  This ‘interval'(such a British term) won’t last long and I hope to resume before the end of the month with new pieces on ‘history’s mysteries’, planetary movements affecting us and the integration of Dr. Bach’s flower remedies to help us weather the ‘winds of change.’

In the meantime, a peek at what I have my fingers into:  a complete redesign of my traditional website and this blog which will be integrated when finished.  I’m working with the terrific team at Beyond Indigo who are creating the redesign as I write new and edit existing copy.  Another project is my possible fall trip to Cathar country in southern France.  The Cathars’ story (their persecution by the Catholic Church otherwise known as the ‘Inquisition’)  has long been a subject of fascination for me and will  provide the foundation for my next historical fiction book.  Depending on how this ‘film’ develops, I hope to be blogging more on this intriguing piece of history.  Also in the mix is my work on the sequel to Igniting Soul Fire, Spiritual Dimensions of the Bach Flower Remedies, which explores Dr. Bach’s Twelve Healers and the Karmic story in our birth charts!

In any case, I intend to be back before the month is out and look forward to it(along with Spring which hopefully will finally have arrived in Chicago by then!)

SWIMMING WITH NEPTUNE’S PISCEAN FISHES ~DR. BACH’S CLEMATIS TO KEEP YOU IN THE GROUND

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

At the end of November I blogged about the transiting effects of Pisces planetary ruler Neptune and the benefits of using Dr. Bach’s Clematis to help dispel the predictable fog.  I have to say, that post was just a morsel; a preview of what was coming down the pipeline for all of us.  Now the Tsunami of Neptune’s energy is here; on February 19th, the Sun moved into Pisces joining Mercury, Mars and Neptune!  And as if this lineup weren’t enough, by the end of February Venus will have also moved into Pisces’ watery world.

The good news is that Venus, Mercury and Mars are fairly fast moving planets.  So, aside from the fact that Mercury is now retrograde until March 17th, by mid April much of the fog will have cleared as these speedy planets and the Sun, will have moved on.  However, Neptune will stay in Pisces for some time; we need this time to assimilate Neptune’s messages (and teachings) which are core to the success of our journey into the frontiers of the bigger picture in our evolution.  As I’ve said before, deciphering such messages very much  depends on where the transits hit your individual birth chart, but make no mistake– there are no mistakes here, for such events are never by ‘accident’ and always have cosmic intent. Nevertheless, what to do in the meantime?  What can we use to help us navigate the deep waters of emotion in a material world?  What can help us understand how each of these planets relate to our own  evolution?      Fortunately, we can call upon Dr. Bach’s Clematis, one of his original Twelve Healers and a ‘soul type’ as I wrote in Igniting Soul Fire, Spiritual Dimensions of the Bach Flower Remedies.

This all said, I’ve re-posted an ‘edited’ portion of November’s blog as the Piscean/Neptunian energy is so important to our evolutionary growth as is the healing energy of  Clematis to help us along our journey.

From an evolutional perspective, there are no accidents in a chart.  Everyone’s chart is uniquely orchestrated for optimum soul growth opportunities.  When a planet’s orbit ‘hits’ a sensitive point in our natal chart, such as the birth position of the Sun, Moon, Ascendant (i.e., the sign on the horizon the moment of your birth), as well as other important points, this is called a ‘transit’.  Transits can be very important because the energy they carry comes with a personal agenda for us.  Whether or not we take advantage of these perfectly ‘timed’ events is another matter; we can respond positively or negatively, the choice is ours. This said, for the sake of space here, I want to zoom out to Neptune and talk about what it feels like when its orbit hits a sensitive chart point.

A significant Neptune transit typically throws us into a landscape of fog and sand.  At the deepest levels Neptune stands at the edge of consciousness…it’s the planet of self-transcendence.  Known as the dissolver, its energy confuses the mind.  Intentions become fuzzy, goals evaporate; you can’t see the way forward. Relationships dissolve or change in ways you could never have imagined.  These are just a few of the effects of Neptune’s transit.    Many years ago before I was leaving for a trip to India, I met someone who said to me, “India.  You’ll either hate it or love it…either way you’ll never be the same.”  This is how I look at Neptune’s transit through Pisces (now joined by the Sun, Mercury, Mars and soon, Venus) .  Because we can’t figure it, (whatever ‘it’ is), out…we can find the experience frustrating, annoying, angering, depleting.  The mental air signs of Aquarius and Gemini have a terrible time with this transit as do the ‘get things done’ signs of Aries and Capricorn.  Where’s the map, where’s my compass?  Forget it, you don’t have one.

The best way to navigate a Neptune transit (which can last a couple of years depending on retrogrades) is to understand there is ‘no time’.  You can’t articulate specifics but you sure can feel them.  The good news is that if you quiet down, go within you can perceive other dimensions for which there is no language but the experience is there; sit with it.  The information is valuable and it’s there if we can just listen.  For these reasons, understandably the ‘Mystic’ is the archetype of Neptune. Clematis’ vibration helps us to stay focused and grounded, but not in such a way that access to the higher realms is prohibited. As with all of the remedies, it’s about ‘balance’.   In general flower remedies can be very helpful in sharpening the images of our dreams, helping us to remember them in our waking state.

TOMORROW’S FULL MOON CALLS FOR BACH’S FLOWER REMEDIES WALNUT & CRAB APPLE

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

While September goes out tomorrow with a full Moon in the fiery warrior Aries, opposing the Sun in harmony seeking Libra, we need to be aware that this isn’t just any full Moon.  This Moon presents us with a full agenda for making yet another course correction.  All full moons bring intense energy, a culmination of seeds that have previously been sown; the degree of intensity depends on the signs and planets involved. Aries and Libra are ‘cardinal’ and thus we are especially put on notice that new beginnings are afoot within us individually and on the global stage.  And, as if this weren’t enough, we’re also looking at  a tight ‘T Square’ with the on-going Uranus/Pluto Square which just had the second of exact hits on September 19th.

We can see the effects of this energy  reflected  in the  ecological, political, cultural and economic upheavals around the globe, but what does all this energy boil down to for each of us personally besides bringing the message of change and new beginnings? If we look at this agenda  in  layers, the first layer of this ‘hot’ full moon urges us to find a collaborative balance (Libra) between our self worth, what we value and love represented by Venus(Libra’s planetary ruler) and the warrior energy of Mars(Aries’ ruler) pushing us to protect and defend what matters most to us.

Going down a little further, we look at how the energy of the on-going Pluto/Uranus square is strongly involved with this full moon.  In astrology, the energy behind a mathematical square of two planets represents a turning point, a crisis of change, so to speak, as  two energies vie for attention in one box.  The key is negotiation.

As I’ve posted before on this square, Pluto requires us to dig deep into the shadows of our internal landscape, bringing to light ‘stuff’ that we’ve managed to ‘stuff’ because it isn’t very attractive.  Pluto says, “It’s time to look at this in the light, clean it out as it no longer serves you well…and if you don’t do it voluntarily, you can be sure I’ll do it for you.”  In a phrase, ‘Pluto takes no prisoners’.  This ‘cleaning out’ can be represented by any number of things; philosophies, material possessions, relationships, careers; the list is endless.  Time to move on, unencumbered.

Uranus’ energy is quick, sudden and intense.  One of the things Uranus rules is electricity; got the picture? Move! Move! Move!  Uranus is the rebel; it wants us to ‘think out of the box’.  “Don’t be a lemming going over the cliff, how can you do yourself differently?”asks Uranus .  “Stop this dilly dallying and get on with it.”  Picture, feel this energy combined with the warrior Mars…definitely not for the faint of heart.  As I’ve said before, how and what these energies mean to each of us depends on where they ‘hit’ in  your birth chart.  This said, what resources are available to us that we can use to support us through this transition?

‘Transition’ IS the message of Dr. Edward Bach’s flower remedy, Walnut, per se.  As with each of Bach’s remedies, Walnut helps to clean our distorted lens, it shifts our perspective specifically and in this case, helps us to cut the ties we need to cut in order to move and meet the demands for change brought by this full moon.  Walnut has many facets, as they all do, but in this case another important aspect to note is Walnut’s ability to protect our solar plexus from assimilating unhealthy energy from others as we the discard unhelpful ‘things’.

Bach’s Crab Apple  is another good choice for this transition.  Bach identified Crab as the ultimate cleanser of all wounds.  So, as we are ‘cleaning out’ here, this remedy supports our process on many levels, not the least of which is dealing with the shame-based guilt that is sure to rear up its ugly head.

With Walnut, Crab Apple and the determination to work with the energies of this full moon, we’re good to go.  What action will you be taking?  Inquiring minds want to KNOW!

WAS ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE A DRAMA QUEEN LEO OR….

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Ancient Legends of Great Britain, Gaye's England, Scotland & Wales, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

In “Flight Through Time”, my 12th century mystery series, Eleanor of Aquitaine is the queen of the hour.  Historically a fascinating woman, scholars, historical fiction authors… not to mention Hollywood, can’t seem to get enough of her; nor can I.  If someone were to ask, “if you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would you choose?” hands down it would be Eleanor.

As I was working on a scene for my 3rd book, “A Watch of Nightingales”, the thought crossed my mind… ‘I wonder what Eleanor’s birth chart looks like?’  An hour of searching through various sources resulted in the disappointing realization that most likely we’ll never know.  While in the 12th century the midwife wasn’t noting time of birth according to the birthing suite clock, scholars can’t even agree on the year of Eleanor’s birth and no one of any authority even contemplates a date.  Disappointing news for sure but the thought  becomes an intriguing brain game of speculation.

Eleanor was a woman  who by all accounts, was highly educated and welcomed travel…and travel she did, throughout her lifetime.  Even when her second husband Henry II  (the rogue!) had her locked up, he would take her on the road with him or more accurately, back and forth across the Channel.  She was a well read woman for her time.  In addition, her biographers (of which there are many) do not indicate that  she found travel extraordinarily distasteful .  Thus, one could suspect that  she might have been a fiery Sagittarius or that she had a strong 9th house (long journeys over water, higher philosophy). “Exploring the world as your oyster” would have been a suitable mantra for Eleanor.   Enduring relationships however, were an entirely different issue…not a strong point for her.   We know her relationships with her children, as well as her marriages, were not evenly balanced (despite the lone and suspect chart I found that places her as a Libra….really?).  She definitely was not a role model for harmony and integration.

In the realm of ‘what if’, it’s apparent that Eleanor liked the kind of drama often ascribed to the Leo sun.  No question,y she reveled in it and in her own way,  reveled being on the world stage.  No wall flower was she.  Alison Weir, the highly regarded authority on Eleanor, states that Eleanor’s court (obviously before her incarceration by Henry) was like no other in all of Europe.  She loved and supported the arts.  She had fine clothes and possessions… “gold for plates and goblets…favorite wines from La Rochelle.”  Her decoration was always the latest in fashion including glazed windows, tiled floors and carpets from the orient.  In a phrase this was a woman who was not economical and was all about “how it and she looked.”  Very Leonine. (I admit, she may have also had Venus in Taurus!)

On the other hand, this was a woman who was calculating in a very analytical way.  In all of her efforts to protect land holdings for Richard I, her favorite child, she plotted and schemed with military precision as if she were in a chess game for life against Henry who favored young Henry until his death and then, John.  Unfortunately no one liked the other son, Geoffrey.

She plotted with Richard behind the scenes; she plotted with her spies when Henry gave her more freedom around 1180 and onwards.  Bottom line, Eleanor never gave up plotting against Henry until he died at Chinon in 1189.  Now, one could say this is the shadow of Scorpio…and it would be fair.  However, keeping in mind that the Sun in a chart is the spirit, the spark, the vitality of our soul, Eleanor’s penchant for plotting like a military general, the analytical approach in her make-up not to mention her duty and service as Queen to her vast constituency as she moved the chess pieces of life around the board behind the scenes, I think point to a different sign.  While not the best face forward of it, I think she possibly might have been a…..VIRGO.

A final note:  the ‘Flight Through Time’ series is in production and not yet published.
