NIGGLY MARS AND DREAMY NEPTUNE IN THE LITERARY EDITING SALON…WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Worth the Read, Writer's Work Leave a comment

That fiery warrior  Mars has been putting all of us to a hard time this winter and spring, first with its retrograde action that began in mid-January slowing EVERYTHING down, not to mention Mercury’s retreat mid-March, messing up communication and things having to do with communication!  And, just when we thought we could see the light at the end of the tunnel when both of these planets changed direction moving forward…

We forgot that action minded Mars, now in detail minded Virgo is also in opposition with dreamy Neptune,  which is in its home sign of Pisces–‘opposites’ being the operative word here.  In astrological oppositions, there’s just ‘no way around’ it, not like squares where, despite the friction, there’s room for negotiation. With oppositions, you have to live through the transit, do your best and contemplate the lesson; it sort of like the ‘builds character’ thing, although I must admit that I’m anticipating the separation of this opposition in mid-May with glee.

When in balance, Mars is all about action, take charge, move on, chop-chop, while Neptune contemplates mysteries of the Universe, imagination and harmony in the collective.  Out of whack, Mars can be a bully, self-focused and dictatorial; Neptune can totally lose it in fantasy, escape and addictions…let’s not even go there.

So where in the realm of writing does this astrological evaluation come in with editors and the editorial process?  Despite grumbling about this process as it relates to my own projects from time to time, editors are too often misaligned and scape-goated.  At the end of the day, for those of us who aspire to being published, a good editor is worth her/his weight in gold, there to make us and our writing Stand Out.  At its best, good editing is altruistic.  Several weeks ago as if Divinely timed, an author friend of mine posted a wonderful article on her Facebook page about editors from Salon.com, entitled, “Let Us Now Praise Editors, by Gary Kamiya…it’s a wonderful read if you’re interested.

Nevertheless, despite knowing all of this intellectually, I’m sure I’m not the only writer who’s been grumbling during this current Mars/Neptune opposition that can manifest as a rewind of passages, chapters, essays, query letters…you name it, at the gentle(or not so gentle) mercy of the editorial blue pencil, pen or in my case, my editor’s yellow highlighting in Word! Bottom line:  revise, revise, revise.

However, as I mentioned a few paragraphs ago, there is light at the end of the tunnel…the energy of Mars’ action butting heads with Neptune’s imagination will soon ease off at which point hopefully those of us who write can look back and admit that we’ve gained some wisdom in the process.

TURNING RETROGRADE IN SAGITTARIUS, MERCURY DOUBLES UP ITS ENERGY MEETING DR. BACH’S CERATO HEAD-ON

If you read my last post, you’ll know there’s a LOT happening in the heavens on Thanksgiving.  Included in the coming attractions,  little  Mercury, ‘messenger of the Gods’, ‘director of all forms of communication’, will begin its final retrograde motion of 2011 as it appears to back up in its orbit until December 13th.

On the practical level as always with a Mercury retrograde, it’s wise to make certain that  computers are continually backed up,  messages are double checked  before we hit ‘send’ or ‘delete’, details of appointments are re-checked  and that we are conscious of what’s coming out of our mouths.  When Mercury turns retrograde, it tends to play havoc with all forms of communication whether they be external or simply a mind that just will not STOP…this is Mercury’s energetic MO.

As I posted last time, along with Venus and the Sun and Moon, Mercury is now in the fire sign of Sagittarius  turning retrograde just hours before the New Moon Solar Eclipse on the 24th…translation: Mercury in Sagittarius is fired up with lots of energy encouraging us to ‘let go’ of beliefs or perspectives that no longer serve or benefit our evolution…but this isn’t the whole story.

When any planet shifts into ‘retrograde’ motion, we’re encouraged to contemplate; to better understand a particular part of ourselves(mercury-the mind), a particular message of the sign that it’s in at the time, (Sagittarius-beliefs) and what alternative action needs to be taken by us, if any.  Thus, during a Mercury retrograde, Dr. Bach’s flower remedy Cerato can be very helpful

Like all of the remedies, Cerato can re-balance s temporary or situational mood state but it’s also one of Dr. Bach’s original ‘Twelve Healers’ and therefore a soul type.  While one may not be a Cerato Soul Type per se, those who have Mercury significantly placed in their chart are particularly subject to Cerato’s shadow energy which distrusts innate wisdom.  As a result, decision making can be very difficult at times; the individual has to ask everyone what they ‘should do’, rather than going within and trusting their own knowing.

During Mercury’s retrograde motion where the message is really to quiet the mind and mouth, Bach’s Cerato can act as a catalyst, shifting our perspective from the external to the internal.  So whether we are dealing with a ‘temporary’ Cerato state or if we might well be a Cerato Soul… if we are prone to distrusting our own Divine wisdom, Cerato’s energy will support us in our effort to go within where we can come to ‘know’ this wisdom that is ours and to trust it.

BUSY END OF AUGUST-MERCURY GOES DIRECT AND NEW MOON COMES IN WITH A GRAND TRINE

Finally, we can take a small breath as Mercury speeds up changing to direct motion…always refreshing!  So the question is; on your internal channels what did you think about, reconsider during this retrograde?  Did you map out adjustments to your plan, set a course ahead that includes these  If so, forward movement can now prove to be beneficial in the quest, whatever that might be.

On the mundane, how many heart stopping moments did you experience with communication…like hitting ‘send’ before double checking the addresses or deleting the thread of an oh, not so great, conversation about someone?….Or booting up your computer only to be faced with the ‘blue(or worse, black) screen of death’?  You can thank Mercury’s retrograde energy meant to make us stop and think!

And now we have a new moon in Virgo exact on Sunday(28th) at approximately 10:04 p.m. CST.  Leo’s full moon earlier this month was about our heart centered creativity; now Virgo is telling us to get down to brass tacks in an earthly way and get busy.  Service is Virgo’s  key goal, but like all of the signs it has its ‘shadow’ which can be hyper criticism, arrogance, over analysis, self-deprecation…take your pick.  Virgo can easily ratchet up its shadow in us if we are predisposed to any of these tendencies.  Self-deprecation seems to be a favorite that says we are ‘never enough’.  I wrote on an earlier post under “Balance” about Dr. Bach’s flower remedy Pine…check it out for Pine is a perfect remedy to help us balance out this particular shadow side of Virgo.

And there is more!  This new moon positioning itself in Virgo comes with a packed agenda.  Venus, the planet of beauty and love is even closer to the Sun now, joined by the moon…reminding us that our interpretation of self-worth and loving ourselves is very important to our evolutionary soul growth.  This new moon is also part of a earth bound Grand Trine to Jupiter(King of the Gods, planet of fortune and expansion), and Pluto(the alchemist, transformer, change).

Grand Trines are easy energy, but they can be deceptive because we can become too complacent with this ease of energy, waiting for things to happen without our input of effort.  Virgo says, “get off your comfy sofa and put some elbow grease into your plan.”  If you do, this Grand Trine energy can be a great support in letting go of outmoded beliefs and plans to be replaced by more useful ones that you may have ‘thought’ about during the recent Mercury retrograde.

In a chart there are no idle actors; the energy of every planet placement has a purpose on the stage, but it is up to us to participate in the script.

July Ends with Powerful New Moon in Dramatic and Creative Leo; August begins with Mercury shifting into Retrograde Mode

WELCOME TO WRITERS MUSE!

My intent for this blog is to offer postings on a variety of subjects(as I learn to navigate the technical side of blogging!) that interest me, and I hope you as well as this site grows over time.  For now I invite you to take a peek into the arena of ‘horoscope musings’ as July ends with a powerful new moon in Leo and August begins with Mercury in retrograde!

New moons always herald in new beginnings in some fashion for each of us  both individually and for the planet as a whole.  This new moon which was  exact at 1:40 p.m. CST on the 30th,  is no exception. It signals a new cycle and level of creative drive mixed with perhaps a bit of drama which the sign of the lion is known for.

This drive is further emphasized as Venus, the planet of love and beauty cozies up to the sun/moon conjunction at 3 ° pushing us to be creative in a new way, to play, experiment and enjoy.  How do we know how creative we can be unless we jump in with no expectations?

New Moons affect all signs but those with the strong influence of Leo or the 5th house in their charts will particularly feel the message of this moon in their hearts.  And, we can plan on feeling these effects for approximately 4 days after the exact conjunction.

But of course it is never enough…Mercury, that mighty little planet, whom the ancients viewed as messenger of the Gods, zooms around its orbit faster than any other planet in the zodiac.  Mercury is all about language and transmission of information.

Ratcheting up at the end of July, on August 2nd,  this planet will shift into ‘retrograde’ motion appearing to move backwards in the heavens until August 26th.  While the point of working with the energy of a Mercury retrograde is to go inside ourselves to connect more deeply with our own inner communication, in the ‘outside’ world it can wreak havoc with all forms of communication.  Ever wonder why voice mails, emails suddenly seem to get dropped during a particular time frame, conversations get bungled or misinterpreted…or electronics that have to do with transmission seem to go on the fritz, particularly computers?  You can blame it on ‘Mercury retrograde’.  The real point however, is for us to slow down, give our central nervous systems a rest and quiet down.  A rest…now this sounds wonderful ….but.

Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo.  For those of us who have these two signs significantly appearing  in our birth charts or powerful aspects to Mercury…be prepared.  I know well of what I speak…make sure that EVERYTHING is backed up in your computer at all times….if you must sign any type of contract, make sure you read the fine print carefully…and as far as social or business appointments?  Reconfirm, reconfirm, reconfirm!

Oh and by the way…the file for my next post just vanished!
