EVOLUTIONARY ASTROLOGY, THE TEACHER-LIFE, THE TRANSFORMER

For this posting, I’ve asked Simon Bentley, Principal of the White Eagle Lodge’s School of Astrology (based in England), to be a guest.  He has kindly given permission to post his piece, ‘Life, the Transformer’, giving us a perspective on soul growth and how the sacred science of astrology can assist each of us on our journey.  Many thanks, Simon!

I wonder if we have ever stopped to think what the word [transform] actually means? Literally, the prefix ‘trans’ means ‘across’, so that ‘transformation’ comes to mean ‘moving across to another form’, and so, changing form. If we aren’t careful, we use this word very glibly, but looked at from a spiritual perspective it is a word of crucial importance, since we are constantly attempting to transform ourselves, change into a form suited to our current position on the spiritual path.

Eventually, we shall all learn to transform continuously, but until we reach such a point of evolution it tends to happen in fits and starts and is not always welcomed…Astrologers recognize that Pluto, despite the fact that astronomers ‘demoted’ it in recent years, is the planet that symbolizes this factor in our growth, and when it’s particularly strong in a horoscope one can be sure that there are significant transformational processes going on in the life.

At this time, Pluto tends to be manifesting in terms of those occurrences and changes in life that seem completely fated, over which we appear to have no control.  The ‘fits and starts’ mentioned above tend to bring to light some kind of major change, the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another, closely linked with Pluto’s action.   However, bearing in mind that every life, every incarnation of every soul, is part of the grand transformational process that eventually brings us to divinity, the significance of the word ‘transformation’ means far more in astrology than simply a reference to what Pluto may do. The whole of life is in some way transformational, and so it could be said that astrology is a science that illuminates the transformational process we call ‘life’. Astrologers are often called upon for advice when there are crises in life, turning points – moments of transformation, if you will.

Astrology can help the soul to understand the process and therefore to be less apprehensive about it and to handle it more harmoniously. Most of life’s problems, as well as often being the inevitable outworking of karmic patterns, are brought about by our tendency to resist this process: astrology, by at least attempting to explain it, helps to remove our all too natural tendency to resist.  This raises an interesting point, especially for astrologers themselves.

It has always been considered that the planet of our science is Uranus, and I would not dispute that astrology is a Uranian occupation, revealing, as it does, spiritual truth and the action of the divine will in human life. However, if astrology is also an assistant to transformation, surely it is also Plutonic? Personally I have often suspected as much, and what I have found is that while astrology is undoubtedly Uranian, Pluto is commonly very active in the horoscopes of those who become professional astrologers.

As professionals they are called upon to help others to cooperate actively with the transformational process in their lives. But there are also implications for the astrologers themselves, and the origin of their vocation. They too are undergoing transformations in their own personal lives, and what they see and experience through their clients is part of their process as well.

The use of the wonderful tool we call astrology is always, therefore, a two-way experience; if properly accomplished it’s that classic win-win situation which we all like to achieve! The client is better enabled to cope with his or her transformation; the astrologer is transformed to a degree simply by doing the job and thus learning from the client. So we could say that astrology itself can be – and hopefully is – used to hasten this process and thus speed up evolution, both individually and, through that, of the whole world.

TOMORROW’S FULL MOON CALLS FOR BACH’S FLOWER REMEDIES WALNUT & CRAB APPLE

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology, Writer's Work Leave a comment

While September goes out tomorrow with a full Moon in the fiery warrior Aries, opposing the Sun in harmony seeking Libra, we need to be aware that this isn’t just any full Moon.  This Moon presents us with a full agenda for making yet another course correction.  All full moons bring intense energy, a culmination of seeds that have previously been sown; the degree of intensity depends on the signs and planets involved. Aries and Libra are ‘cardinal’ and thus we are especially put on notice that new beginnings are afoot within us individually and on the global stage.  And, as if this weren’t enough, we’re also looking at  a tight ‘T Square’ with the on-going Uranus/Pluto Square which just had the second of exact hits on September 19th.

We can see the effects of this energy  reflected  in the  ecological, political, cultural and economic upheavals around the globe, but what does all this energy boil down to for each of us personally besides bringing the message of change and new beginnings? If we look at this agenda  in  layers, the first layer of this ‘hot’ full moon urges us to find a collaborative balance (Libra) between our self worth, what we value and love represented by Venus(Libra’s planetary ruler) and the warrior energy of Mars(Aries’ ruler) pushing us to protect and defend what matters most to us.

Going down a little further, we look at how the energy of the on-going Pluto/Uranus square is strongly involved with this full moon.  In astrology, the energy behind a mathematical square of two planets represents a turning point, a crisis of change, so to speak, as  two energies vie for attention in one box.  The key is negotiation.

As I’ve posted before on this square, Pluto requires us to dig deep into the shadows of our internal landscape, bringing to light ‘stuff’ that we’ve managed to ‘stuff’ because it isn’t very attractive.  Pluto says, “It’s time to look at this in the light, clean it out as it no longer serves you well…and if you don’t do it voluntarily, you can be sure I’ll do it for you.”  In a phrase, ‘Pluto takes no prisoners’.  This ‘cleaning out’ can be represented by any number of things; philosophies, material possessions, relationships, careers; the list is endless.  Time to move on, unencumbered.

Uranus’ energy is quick, sudden and intense.  One of the things Uranus rules is electricity; got the picture? Move! Move! Move!  Uranus is the rebel; it wants us to ‘think out of the box’.  “Don’t be a lemming going over the cliff, how can you do yourself differently?”asks Uranus .  “Stop this dilly dallying and get on with it.”  Picture, feel this energy combined with the warrior Mars…definitely not for the faint of heart.  As I’ve said before, how and what these energies mean to each of us depends on where they ‘hit’ in  your birth chart.  This said, what resources are available to us that we can use to support us through this transition?

‘Transition’ IS the message of Dr. Edward Bach’s flower remedy, Walnut, per se.  As with each of Bach’s remedies, Walnut helps to clean our distorted lens, it shifts our perspective specifically and in this case, helps us to cut the ties we need to cut in order to move and meet the demands for change brought by this full moon.  Walnut has many facets, as they all do, but in this case another important aspect to note is Walnut’s ability to protect our solar plexus from assimilating unhealthy energy from others as we the discard unhelpful ‘things’.

Bach’s Crab Apple  is another good choice for this transition.  Bach identified Crab as the ultimate cleanser of all wounds.  So, as we are ‘cleaning out’ here, this remedy supports our process on many levels, not the least of which is dealing with the shame-based guilt that is sure to rear up its ugly head.

With Walnut, Crab Apple and the determination to work with the energies of this full moon, we’re good to go.  What action will you be taking?  Inquiring minds want to KNOW!

DR. BACH’S ANTIDOTES FOR AFTER SHOCKS OF PLUTO’S EXACT HIT ON URANUS

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology Leave a comment

While it may seem that there’s overkill chat regarding the Pluto/Uranus square and the first of seven exact hits this past Sunday, the reality is… not really.  Or, put another way to coin a phrase, ‘it’s never enough’.  Globally and on all levels, all of us are going to be living with this energy as it builds and wanes, builds and wanes until the final of the seven exact hits occurs March, 2015.

How and where this energy is affecting us personally as we navigate this passage is and will be very individual.  Outwardly we’re already witnessing its effects in Mother Nature’s rage environmentally along with the struggle for political change around the globe.

As I’ve mentioned previously, Pluto is currently in Capricorn where its mission is to break  up and eliminate those things and structures that no longer serve.  On the other end of the square, Uranus is sitting in Aries where as a restless rebel, it’s  full of aggression.

Thus, this circumstance begs the question, what can we call upon to calm our own turbulent waters of emotion so that we may respond with clear vision and action to the environment around us?

As I wrote in Igniting Soul Fire, Spiritual Dimensions of the Bach Flower Remedies, Dr. Edward Bach did explore the subject of astrology as it related to his 38 Bach Flower Remedies.  Nevertheless, in his writings which are scant, he admits to stepping away from his theories of such connections because,  ‘one wants to be sure’.  However in Igniting, I speculate that while he made this statement publicly, privately I find it hard to believe that he did so; he was too esoteric in his philosophy and explorations.  Perhaps he felt the time wasn’t quite right for such speculation and therefore decided to leave it to others who would follow him.

Without delving too deeply into the whys and wherefores through the astrological lens, I offer these interpretations with remedy suggestions as a starting point for calming the internal reactions that may be stirring up for you.

I begin with the reminder (again) that each of Bach’s 38 possesses multiple subtleties when it comes to choice consideration, similarly to the numerous contemplations an astrologer ruminates across when interpreting the planetary relationships in a chart.

This said, Bach’s remedy Mimulus is classically suggested for calming ‘worldly fears’.  In other words, whether it’s an ongoing phobia or situational fear, you KNOW what’s frightening you.  You can finish the sentence, “I’m afraid of…”  You can name it and it relates to the mundane of everyday life AND I add from an evolutional perspective, our past…in this life  as well as perhaps a prior life which carries karma that has now ripened to be dealt with.  With Pluto currently sitting in the sign of Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn, there’s an energetic theme that demands we dig deep (Pluto) in order to  come face to face with long-denied fears (Saturn) and thus claim our power through transformation (Pluto).

Among Mimulus’ attributes is the energy of courage; here there’s no coincidence, for ‘courage’ is a positive characteristic of the warrior planet Mars… which rules the sign of Aries… right where Uranus the rebel, is currently sitting! However, when Aries isn’t balanced it becomes (among other unattractive attributes), impatient! Happily, there is a remedy for this and it’s Bach’s Impatiens which also happens to be in his famous combination, Rescue Remedy.

Thus, we have two initial remedies capable of supporting us through the challenges ahead.  For directions on how to use them in combination as well as other information on flower remedies, please refer to my website:  http://www.gayemack.com

DR. EDWARD BACH’S REMEDIES WHEN THE MESSAGE OF ‘TRANSFORMATION’ IN THE PLUTO/URANUS SQUARE HITS YOUR HOUSES OF SELF-ESTEEM AND SOUL’S AGENDA

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Balance, Karmic and Self-Discovery Astrology Leave a comment

Even if astrology isn’t your cup of tea, it’s hard to ignore the ‘buzz’ over the approaching ‘exact hit’ of the Pluto/Uranus square on June 24th.  This event has been touted in various facets of the media including the financial pages where it’s been discussed by highly respected financial gurus such as Ray Merriman who also happens to be an astrologer.   The building energy of this event is affecting us on many levels from personal to global.  Pluto cleans out what needs to go so that new growth can emerge and Uranus is the lightning rod to the process as we are already witnessing in the chaos of world markets, the weather, communications and politics.

None of us is immune to what’s happening, so what this process means for each of us on a personal level is of import.  Everyone’s birth and transit charts offer up hundreds of permutation possibilities dependent on the energetic relations between the planets, signs and houses.  Interestingly, this is not unlike the possibilities offered within Dr. Bach’s 38 flower remedies, which actually there are over 200 million possible combinations of the 38!  And not unlike the energetic effect on us from the movement in the heavens, the vibration of the remedies can and does affect us basically on three levels; the mundane, themes in our emotional history and very importantly, our SOUL agenda with its karmic contract.

In astrology, whether it’s the birth chart or one of the calculated transit charts, the fourth house in one’s chart is the deepest house in the chart.  Among the mundane and emotional themes, it’s also ‘the seat of the soul’.  Because the Pluto/Uranus square is so significant and about ‘transformation’, I’m particularly interested in charts where the impact of the ‘transiting’ Square hits the second and fourth houses from this deep perspective.

Our Soul has an agenda that’s unique to each and every one of us.  That said, the issue of self-esteem, which is one of the second house themes, is ‘soul connected’.  How we are impacted by this theme, if at all, is dependent on many other factors in the chart that not only reflect our current ‘history’ but also our ‘karmic story’.  Nevertheless, if Pluto is residing in the second house, there’s going to be an upheaval in some manner in how you interpret your self-esteem.  How this will be triggered is impossible to predict, but it will require a re-examination and shift in some manner.  Pluto is currently in the sign of Capricorn.  Capricorn, ruled by Saturn is about stability, accountability, structure, responsibility…solid ground.  Is your self-esteem weak or is it perhaps due for a reality check?  With Pluto in the second house, by transit, the other end of this square will be in the fourth house where Uranus, the rebel who likes to ‘shock’, is teamed up with Aries, the sign of the warrior, Mars…no wishy washy here.  So what to do?

Whether looking at this picture from an astrological or flower remedy perspective (or both), we have consistent themes of upheaval, change, transformation.  With over 200 million possible combinations of Bach 38 remedies there are endless considerations dependent on the unique circumstances for each of us.  However, consistently from the larger picture, there are two that readily come to mind first and foremost…Star of Bethlehem and Walnut.

‘Star’ as I’ve written before in previous posts, is THE umbrella remedy.  Classically and I emphasize, ‘classically’,  its indications are for ‘shock and trauma’…certainly this description might fit the transit fallout from Pluto and Uranus more profoundly for some than others.  As a practitioner I’ve always recommended this remedy for grief and loss…very possible results of this square for some, but again not necessarily dramatically across the board.  For many people change is readily embraced, for others it can be traumatic.  Thus, change is a very subjective process.  Regardless, Star is a BIG remedy; its energy is incredibly healing for everyone and goes incredibly deep which is why Dr. Bach, I’m sure, included it in his ‘Rescue Remedy’ formula.  Walnut on the other hand is always, always for ‘change and transition’.  Need we say more?  Walnut is for life changes; it helps us break the ties that bind, helps us move onward without distraction.

Finally, no matter where the Pluto/Uranus square is hitting your ‘circumstances of life’, calling upon these two remedies would not go amiss as you navigate this passage.  At the end of the day, the theme with Dr. Bach’s remedies, as with all flower remedies, really, is about participation, awareness, reflection & growth.

AND YOU THOUGHT ESPRESSO WAS COFFEE–ENTER THE PRINT-ON-DEMAND ESPRESSO BOOK MACHINE COMING SOON TO YOUR FAVORITE CAFE

Posted on by Gaye Mack in Writer's Work Leave a comment

In a very Uranian manner, the wonder of technology has hit the realm of publishers and writers alike with the arrival of On Demand Books’ Espresso Book Machine!  Now, while you wait for your favorite café drink to be made, the book you’ve wanted to read can be printed for you in paperback format with lightening speed at the cost of approximately a penny per page.

Just imagine, for those of us who still like to hold the real deal in our hands but have acquiesced to the age of ‘readers’,  no more trying to squint your way through pages on your Kindle, IPad or Nook while you sip.  And there’s more good news.   For authors desiring to go the self publishing route, On Demand Books offers this option as well. Print-ready PDF files (with cover) are uploaded to ODB.  Almost immediately the book is available for sale through the Espresso Book Machine’s global network. Full ownership and control over the digital files is retained by the author along with the rights to modify or delete titles from the system at any time.  As for payment, sales are tracked by ODB’s EspressNet software, which secures the author’s titles and provides all payments to the author as self-publisher.  Distribution is non-exclusive.

Additionally, even traditional houses such as Harper Collins, Hachette Group, MacMillan and Random house, just to name a few, have taken advantage as a way to increase their sales in partnership with the brick and mortar bookstores.  All in all it seems a win/win situation for everyone.   When I first read about this, I wondered where I’d been as evidently the system has been around for a few years.  Upon further exploration I discovered that current  locations for public access are not plentiful…yet.  Many are within university libraries and some bookstores.  Nevertheless I suspect the demand will grow through readers like myself. Check out ODB’s  website to find locations here and abroad.

As an author who has resisted self-publishing, I have to admit the advantages seem substantial when you consider them, especially for authors who haven’t been able to get in the door of the traditional publishing houses or for even those  of us who have.  Of course as always with self-publishing and even through a traditional publisher in these times, the onus of marketing falls on the author.  One can only hope that the wizards at ODB will come up with a marketing gizmo that cuts through the social network marketing jungle!

If all of this seems too good to be true, check out the YouTube Video to watch how this works as you wait for that latte…I’ll bet you shake your head!
